The attacker, a 20-year-old man, was shot dead by law enforcement. A bystander died after jumping over his wife and daughters to protect them.
11.50 pm: The FBI says threats of political violence are on the rise. The FBI says threats of political violence, already high, have increased online since the assassination attempt, according to the Wall Street Journal.
“We’ve seen people go online and try to impersonate or pose as the shooter,” who was killed by a Secret Service sniper, said FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate. He added that FBI officials are now focusing on monitoring any threats ahead of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee and next month’s Democratic Convention in Chicago.
